      Looks at how the conference on public health and prospects in Arab countries and the publication of the Arab Human Development Report 2002 (ADHR), and how they may help identify important steps toward improving development and health in Arab countries. Identification of different sets of priorities for development and impediments to progress; Stress of the AHDR on women's status, freedoms, and knowledge; Idea that the AHDR provided few realistic solutions; Opinion that health policy in the Arab world has not adequately focused on sociopolitical determinants of health; Need for the expansion of the international agenda for health development in Arab countries to include the effects of conflict and the political climate; View that there is a need for improved coordination of development efforts between Arab countries; Importance of public participation in developing agendas and community projects to improve health.
