    • Abstract:
The article presents the author's views regarding the proposal of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) screening be routinely offered in all health care settings. According to him, these actions signal the end of the exceptionalism that has distinguished public health policy with regard to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) from approaches to other communicable and sexually transmitted diseases.
