    • Abstract:
This analysis is related to two periods of the Kerala history, the first one concerning the genesis of the first monarchy, the Chera kingdom at the beginning of the christian era, and the second period concerning the "golden age" of the same kingdom (9th century A.D.). The choice of these two periods can be justified by the two-fold aim of this study: on the one hand to determine what would be the impact of this social relationship on the role of religion in the reproduction of the same social relationship. To wit, this type of social relationship was based upon the protective role of the State in the circulation of the social product and in the organization of production which remained in the hands of the kinship entities, which is typical of a tributary mode of production. On the other hand, the purpose of the research was to know what would have been the influence of this specific type of social organization on the structuration of the religious field itself. The case of the Chera monarchy in its pinnacle stage has been chosen, not only because its structures were then complex, but because this period corresponded to the diffusion of Hinduism. The diversification in the beliefs and in the expressive forms which can still be observed today in Hindouism, according to social groups cannot be explained, without taking into account that it developed itself in South India within tributary forms of societies.
