    • Abstract:
Such views were highly influential and affected greatly the legacy of Rawls' work, sowing belief that Rawls endorsed a watered-down egalitarian politics insufficiently radical to interrupt the destructive trends inherent in capitalist societies. Edmundson argues that Rawlsian principles ultimately support liberal socialism, a fact he believes Rawls knew but was reluctant to proclaim. Edmundson's reminder is that Rawls shows how socialism can be that rallying point, necessary as it is to preserve institutional flexibility and responsiveness to new and emerging citizen demands.
