    • Abstract:
      Banks should make an effort to pass the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) examination to receive a favorable CRA rating. Banks should not ignore the CRA because noncompliance sends the wrong message to bank examiners, a bad CRA rating can hurt expansion opportunities, and compliance with the CRA can lead to new business opportunities. The steps that one community bank followed in complying with the CRA included establishing in-house CRA training sessions, analyzing the geographic distributions of deposits and loans, narrowing the geographic area that it served, evaluating its product mix, and creating a formal written CRA plan. These steps can be applied to all banks.
