    • Abstract:
The author discusses aspects of the history of surgical treatment for appendicitis in the 21st century. He says that acute appendicitis was recognized as condition best treated by surgery, but the status was changed by the survival of Edward VII after his surgery and when his acute appendicitis remained fatal. He mentions that in 1995 the nature of treatment for appendicitis was challenged by comparing results in a randomized controlled trial on patients treated by surgery and antibiotics.
