    • Abstract:
The article examines one of the most important features of the modern history of the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jews), their first significant encounter with Protestant missionaries in Israel. Focus has been given to assess the impact of promoting Christianity amongst the Jews by the missionaries of the London Society. The mission represents the Jews' first significant contact with Western culture and modernity. The study also offers insight into both the nature of their traditional society and the manner with which they respond to foreign influences.
